Problems arising in international supply chains and the need for new alternatives in trade are rapidly increasing the strategic importance of the Middle Corridor (Trans-Caspian International Transport Route) in global logistics.
Sea-news.az reports that Milli Majlis deputy Konul Nurullayeva said these words.
The deputy noted that in this route connecting Europe through China, Central Asia, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey, Azerbaijan has become one of the main participants with its favorable geographical location and modern infrastructure. The Baku International Sea Trade Port, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, and renovated highways expand our country’s transit capabilities and further strengthen the East-West logistics bridge.
K. Nurullayeva emphasized that the digitalization of freight transportation, the introduction of the “single window” system, the simplification of customs procedures, and almost doubling port capacities have increased the competitiveness of the route. The volume of goods transported from China to Azerbaijan and in the opposite direction is growing rapidly.
The development of the Middle Corridor makes an important contribution to the increase of transit revenues, the expansion of the non-oil sector, the creation of new jobs, and the attraction of foreign investments. For Europe, this route is considered the most promising transport artery of the 21st century in terms of the safe delivery of energy, raw materials, and critical minerals from Central Asia.
