The Republic of Azerbaijan has been a member of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) since 1995. During this period, our country has ratified more than 20 conventions and protocols of the IMO.
According to sea-news.az that Sabuhi Orujov, a representative of the State Maritime and Port Agency of Azerbaijan, said these words at the “Safe Passage 2026” Forum held in Baku.
He emphasized that among the international documents in question, the three main pillars of the global maritime regulatory framework should be specifically noted. “Our country is a party to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL), and the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW). At the same time, Azerbaijan has successfully passed the IMO Member State Audit Scheme (IMSAS), demonstrating its commitment to the effective implementation of international maritime documents. As an indicator of the full and effective implementation of the STCW Convention, Azerbaijan is included in the IMO’s ‘White List’. This shows that our country complies with internationally recognized standards in the training and certification of seafarers,” the agency representative stated.
