Swiss engine manufacturer WinGD has successfully completed factory acceptance tests of its first X72DF-A ammonia dual-fuel engine, which will be installed on a 210,000 DWT bulk carrier being built for CMB.TECH.
According to sea-news.az reports that the tests were carried out at CSSC Engine Co (CSE) in China, with representatives from Lloyd’s Register, the American Bureau of Shipping, and the China Classification Society in attendance.
The 72-cylinder engine will be installed on the first vessel in a series of 10 ammonia-ready Newcastlemax bulk carriers ordered by CMB.TECH. According to the company, the engine demonstrated performance comparable to diesel engines while operating on ammonia fuel and can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 90%.
WinGD also announced that it has received orders for around 40 X-DF-A ammonia engines across different vessel segments, reflecting the growing interest in ammonia as an alternative marine fuel within the shipping industry.
