27

Romania and Bulgaria are proposing a halt to attacks on commercial vessels in the Black Sea and the strengthening of regional coordination regarding maritime security.

Sea-news.az reports the foreign ministers of both countries stated this position ahead of the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Luxembourg.

Romanian Foreign Minister Oana-Silvia Tsoyu reported that direct attacks on vessels in her country’s exclusive economic zone resulted in 2 fatalities. Bulgarian Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova-Chamova emphasized that a moratorium on commercial shipping attacks aligns with the interests of all Black Sea nations. Sofia and Bucharest are jointly working to establish a Maritime Security Center, featuring operational bases in Constanța and Varna, to enhance information sharing and safeguard commercial shipping corridors.
