Within the framework of the “Human Rights Month” (May 18 – June 18) announced on the initiative of the Ombudsman of the Republic of Azerbaijan, an educational seminar was held at the Azerbaijan State Maritime Academy (ASMA).

According to sea-news.az the main purpose of the seminar was to enhance students’ legal knowledge, promote human rights and freedoms, and strengthen legal awareness and civic responsibility among young people.

The event was jointly organized by the Faculty of “Ship Mechanics and Electromechanics” and the Department of “Humanities” of ASMA, with participation from academic staff, administrative employees, and students.

The seminar provided detailed information on students’ rights to education, academic freedoms, the balance of rights and responsibilities in higher education institutions, as well as national and international legal norms. In addition, international conventions regulating seafarers’ labor rights and existing legal mechanisms in this field were discussed.

It was emphasized that such events aimed at protecting human rights and developing legal culture make an important contribution to increasing students’ legal literacy and shaping them into more active and responsible citizens.

The seminar also included open discussions, with participants’ questions answered and views exchanged on the importance of legal awareness.
