The “Dostlug” field project, which entails the joint development of hydrocarbon resources in the Caspian Sea, is elevating the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan to a qualitatively new level.
Sea-news.az reports in a statement to Oxu.Az, Member of Parliament Mushfig Jafarov noted that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s working visit to Turkmenistan holds exceptional significance for strengthening strategic partnership, Caspian regional security, and the expansion of regional transport and energy infrastructure. The MP highlighted that the 2017 Declaration on Strategic Partnership and the January 2021 Memorandum of Understanding on the joint exploration and development of the “Dostlug” field have significantly fortified bilateral energy cooperation.

M. Jafarov emphasized that the Azerbaijani President’s participation in the 8th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia in Turkmenistan demonstrates a dynamic new era of strategic integration between Azerbaijan and the Central Asian region. Against the backdrop of escalating global instability and supply chain disruptions, the continuous expansion of the East-West and North-South transport corridors, alongside Caspian port and energy infrastructure, serves to fully unlock the region’s economic and transit potential.
