On June 10, 2026, an event dedicated to June 15 – National Salvation Day was held at the Azerbaijan State Maritime Academy (ASMA). Professor Misir Mardanov attended the event as a guest.
According to sea-news.az the ceremony began with the performance of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan, followed by a minute of silence in memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence, territorial integrity, and sovereignty.
In his opening speech, Acting Rector of ASMA and Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs and International Relations Eldar Gojayev highlighted the pivotal role of Heydar Aliyev’s return to power in 1993, noting that it ensured political stability, strengthened statehood, and shaped the country’s development strategy. He also emphasized that the tricolor flag flying in the liberated territories is the result of a wise state policy initiated on National Salvation Day and the historic victory achieved under the leadership of Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev. Gojayev expressed gratitude to Professor Mardanov for donating his book “Heydar Aliyev: A Life Dedicated to the People” to the academy.
Professor Misir Mardanov then delivered a speech titled “The Path from Revival to Victory”, discussing Heydar Aliyev’s exceptional contributions to the protection and development of Azerbaijani statehood. He shared personal memories, highlighting Aliyev’s special attention to science, education, and youth. Mardanov also recounted key events of June 15, 1993, explaining their causes and consequences, and described the challenges faced during the restoration of state stability.
At the end of the event, students asked numerous questions, which the professor answered in detail. He expressed admiration for the academy’s impressive building and stated that he greatly enjoyed the meeting with students and the warm atmosphere at ASMA.
