Captain Fuad Orujov, an Azerbaijani citizen and resident of Khachmaz, was the captain of one of the two foreign cargo vessels damaged in a drone attack in the Sea of Azov on the night of June 5.
According to sea-news.az citing Baku TV, the captain’s wife, Ayten Orujova, said that Fuad Orujov had worked in the maritime industry for more than 20 years.
She stated that during the incident, the captain did everything he could to save the crew members on board, but was unable to save himself.
“He had been a seafarer for more than 20 years. During the attack, he managed to save everyone on the vessel, but could not protect himself. Four children are waiting for him at home,” Ayten Orujova said.
As previously reported, the Natra and Zirkon dry cargo vessels were attacked by unmanned aerial vehicles in the Sea of Azov during the night of June 5. Five Azerbaijani citizens were killed and three others were injured in the incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
