New phase in Caspian port cooperation

Uzbekistan is considering positioning its future cargo fleet at ports in Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan in order to ensure stable transportation of export and import goods and reduce delays along transit routes.

According to reports, the country has begun developing mechanisms for both leasing and purchasing ferries that will operate in the Caspian Sea. This was stated by Shokhrukh Ghulamov, Acting Deputy Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan.

Ghulamov noted that creating its own fleet would represent a new strategic direction in logistics. Given that shipbuilding is a long-term process, leasing options are also being considered to meet short-term needs.

It should be noted that in July 2025, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan signed a protocol on expanding transport cooperation, and in August a memorandum on shipbuilding cooperation was signed with Turkmenistan.
