Wärtsilä has introduced the “GREASE TRAP – GM” series, a modular product line designed for commercial vessels, cruise ships, and offshore platforms. The system separates fats and oils from galley wastewater before they enter the drainage system, helping to protect the marine environment and reduce the risk of pipe blockages.
Developed in compliance with European standards (BS EN 1825), the system operates on a gravity-based principle. Heavier waste particles settle at the bottom, while lighter oils are collected in a separate chamber and removed from the system. This ensures uninterrupted operation of onboard wastewater systems and minimizes maintenance costs.
The “GM” series, launched for sale from May 2026, is offered in four different configurations to suit various vessel sizes. By reducing workload for crew members and offering both mechanical and automated control options, the technology aims to significantly improve cleanliness and operational efficiency in ship galleys.
