Japan’s “Nissen Kaiun” has taken advantage of rising asset values in the tanker market by placing its modern “eco-Aframax” vessels on sale at record prices. The most discussed deal of the past weekend involved the tanker “Pusaka Borneo,” built in 2018.
The 109,000 DWT scrubber-fitted vessel was sold for $76.5 million, setting a new all-time price record for seven-year-old Aframax tankers.
Alongside this record transaction, another vessel of the same type, “Southern Reverence,” was reportedly sold for around $75 million. This further confirms strong demand for modern tonnage despite fluctuations in freight markets.
Daily spot earnings for Aframax tankers peaked at $225,000 in March, averaging around $136,000. In comparison, the figure in 2025 was only about $50,000. As of early May, average earnings stand at approximately $150,000 per day.
