Clean energy startup MarineSolar has successfully completed trials of its “NanoDeck” solar energy system aboard the “RTM Cook” vessel, owned by Rio Tinto.

According to the company, the system operated continuously over several months in open-sea conditions, maintaining stable performance and reliable data transmission despite strong waves and wind.

“NanoDeck” is a retrofit photovoltaic technology designed for installation on existing vessels. It generates additional energy both while sailing and in port, helping reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions. Early results indicate that the system has the potential to lower bunker fuel usage.

MarineSolar also stated that it is currently exploring integration options with alternative propulsion systems and low-emission fuel technologies.
