The life path of Natalya Fatyanova is precisely an example of such a destiny.
She was born in the city of Baku on February 21, 1992. She grew up on the shores of the Caspian Sea since childhood, watching its sometimes calm and sometimes stormy waves. The Caspian was not just a sea for her. Over time, it became an inseparable part of Natalya’s dreams, professional choice, scientific pursuits, and future plans.
“Is it possible to be born in this ancient and beautiful city and not love its blue-eyed, playful Caspian, not to fall in love with it?”
Natalya’s this thought also expresses her philosophy of life. Baku is her native land, and the Caspian is the source of inspiration for her childhood dreams and professional path.
The girl growing up with a maritime tradition
Natalya was not attached to the sea by chance. She grew up in a family where maritime traditions were alive.
Her mother, Svetlana Alexandrovna Fatyanova, worked for many years as a leading engineer at “ASCO Engineering” LLC under the “Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping” CJSC. Her father, Vladimir Anatolyevich Fatyanov, worked at the ship repair plant named after Paris Commune.
Unfortunately, Natalya lost her father when she was only six years old. As a result of the tragedy that occurred in 1998, her father and grandfather passed away. Although this heavy loss left a deep trace in her childhood memory, the family’s maritime tradition continued in Natalya’s life.
Her father’s memory has always been dear to her. As for her mother, she did not remarry and dedicated her entire life to the upbringing and education of her only child.
Growing up in such a family environment, Natalya listened with great interest from childhood to conversations related to shipping, technical issues, and the life of sailors.
Thus, her childhood interest turned into the beginning of a big dream over time.

Natalya also stood out with her activity and high achievements during her school years. She studied with excellent grades at secondary school No. 20 in the city of Baku.
Graduating from secondary school with excellent grades in 2009, Natalya was admitted to the Azerbaijan State Maritime Academy. By choosing the specialty of “Marine Engineering and Technologies”, she determined the main direction of her life path.
This choice was both a continuation of the family tradition and the realization of her personal dream.
First steps at the Azerbaijan State Maritime Academy
Natalya’s student years were not limited to education alone. Along with academic knowledge, she also showed great interest in scientific research.
She participated in scientific conferences dedicated to Heydar Aliyev and was awarded various prizes based on the results of those conferences.
Completing her bachelor’s degree in 2014, Natalya continued her education in the master’s program in the same specialty. In parallel, she began her labor activity as a teaching master at the “Ship Power Plants and Shipbuilding” department of the academy.
In 2016, she graduated from the master’s program with honors and was appointed to the position of assistant at the “Ship Power Plants” department.
Thus, a consistent and purposeful path extending from student to teacher, and from teacher to scientific activity, began.
From scientific pursuits to the scientific degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Technical Sciences
One of the most important stages of Natalya Fatyanova’s professional activity is her scientific research.
Natalya Fatyanova, Doctor of Philosophy in Technical Sciences, pursued doctoral studies in the specialty of “Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Technology”.
As a result of her long-term and purposeful scientific research, in 2025 she successfully defended her dissertation on the topic “Increasing the corrosion resistance of the ship hull through the use of nanoloaders in paint and varnish coatings” and received the scientific degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Technical Sciences.
This scientific direction was not chosen by chance.
Increasing corrosion resistance is one of the important issues for the long-term and safe operation of ships in the marine environment. Natalya’s research was aimed precisely at the scientific and practical solution of this problem.
As a result of her research, an invention was obtained regarding a paint and varnish composition improved with nanoloaders. This result shows that her scientific activity bears not only a theoretical but also a practical direction.
Thus, the dream of a little girl watching the waves on the Caspian shore in her childhood turned into scientific research, engineering activity, and a scientific degree years later.
Teacher, engineer, researcher, and young scientist
Natalya Fatyanova, Doctor of Philosophy in Technical Sciences, is not only a scientist conducting research, but also a teacher passing her knowledge on to the younger generation.
Her teaching in Azerbaijani at the Azerbaijan State Maritime Academy is one of the indicators of her attachment to her mother tongue and national values.
Despite studying in the Russian section at secondary school, she mastered the Azerbaijani language at a high level and teaches students in that language today.
For her, the Azerbaijani language is her native tongue, and Azerbaijan is her native Motherland.
This approach clearly demonstrates one of the important features of Natalya’s life path—her attachment to the Motherland and sense of national identity.
Social activity and patriotism
Alongside her scientific and pedagogical activity, Natalya Fatyanova also shows activity in public life.
She is a member of the Sabail district organization of the New Azerbaijan Party and actively participates in socio-political events. At the same time, she acts as the deputy chairperson of the Territorial Party Organization of the New Azerbaijan Party at “Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping” CJSC.
Her active public stance and consistent activity have been appreciated with various honorary diplomas and certificates of appreciation.
Being awarded an honorary diploma by the Sabail district organization on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the YAP, and successfully completing the political course dedicated to the scientific-political heritage of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in 2022 are among the highlights of her public activity.
Being awarded an honorary diploma by the Public Association for Promoting National Heroes of the Azerbaijan Republic for her services in the patriotic education of youth is also among the appreciations given to her public activity.
Daughter of the Caspian and citizen of Azerbaijan
One of the points that draws special attention in Natalya’s life story is her love for Azerbaijan.
She has been to various countries and seen different parts of the world. However, all these have shown her one truth more clearly: there is no place as native to her as Azerbaijan.
