President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has received Yu Boyan, head of the Chinese company “Guoyou Materials Industry Group.” The meeting focused on the development of port infrastructure and the expansion of shipping operations in the Caspian Sea.
According to sea-news.az that the Chinese company will implement the project to expand the Kuryk port in the Mangistau region. Thanks to the multifunctional multimodal hub to be built there, it is planned to increase the port’s annual throughput capacity to 15 million tons in the first year of operation.
President Tokayev emphasized his country’s goal of becoming a major transport and logistics hub in Eurasia, stating that this project will accelerate the integration of maritime and rail logistics, thereby increasing the region’s export and transit potential. The project will also contribute to the creation of new jobs and the development of local personnel.
It should be noted that the President of Kazakhstan is currently on a working visit to Shanghai, China. Within the framework of the visit, in addition to the Kuryk port, important agreements were signed regarding the construction of Central Asia’s first battery factory and the first pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant in Kazakhstan.
