The measures taken by SOCAR toward detecting and eliminating marine oil spills in a short period of time hold significant importance. In such cases, an operational response helps minimize potential negative impacts from both ecological and economic perspectives.

According to sea-news.az economist-expert Khalid Karimli stated this in a comment to AZERTAG.

He noted that timely intervention carries particular significance during such incidents:

“It is crucial for SOCAR to detect oil spills occurring at sea in a timely manner and to eliminate them operationally. Carrying out this process in an operational fashion is of great importance, particularly because a rapid response in such scenarios allows for minimizing the scale of the damage inflicted. This helps protect the marine biodiversity and ecosystem, as well as prevent the deterioration of the ecological situation in coastal areas. At the same time, the volume and financial costs of subsequent cleanup operations are significantly reduced.”

Kh. Karimli emphasized that such incidents occur all over the world, and the most critical matter is to operatively prevent the incident. To this end, special attention must be dedicated to technical safety and monitoring issues.

“For this very reason, SOCAR pays special attention to technical safety and monitoring matters. It conducts continuous monitoring of pipelines and takes preventive steps to ensure that incidents do not occur in pipelines that have exceeded their service life or are in a hazardous condition, decommissioning those pipelines,” Kh. Karimli added.
