The story of Roya Alekberli, a crew member of ASCO’s vessel “Culfa”, offers one of the clearest answers to this question.

According to sea-news.az Roya Alekberli, a graduate of the Azerbaijan State Marine Academy, began her professional career as a motorman. Last month, she successfully passed the examination for a marine engineer certificate and was promoted to the position of Fourth Engineer.

It is noted that she is only the second female seafarer in Azerbaijan to obtain this certification and work as a marine engineer.

Her professional journey, built step by step, is shared in a video interview where she speaks about her decision to choose a maritime career, the challenging yet motivating path she has taken, and her future goals.

Her story once again demonstrates that women can successfully build careers in the maritime and shipping industry, breaking long-standing barriers in the field.
