At the Port of Rotterdam, a marine vessel has been bunkered with ethanol for the first time. The container ship Eco Levant, operated by X-Press Feeders, was supplied with ethanol fuel.
Following the bunkering operation, the vessel continued its voyage using a blend of ethanol and methanol. The fuel mixture consisted of 90 percent biomethanol and 10 percent second-generation ethanol.
The ethanol and methanol were received separately on board and later blended within the ship’s onboard systems before use.
X-Press Feeders stated that it will continue its efforts to develop and implement alternative fuel solutions aimed at reducing emissions in maritime transport.
