A series of meetings in Istanbul between the Azerbaijan State Marine Academy (ASMA) delegation and leading Turkish higher education and research institutions has explored new partnership opportunities in maritime education, scientific cooperation, and innovation-driven development.

As part of a working visit to Türkiye, the ASMA delegation held meetings at the Faculty of Maritime Studies of Istanbul Technical University (ITU) and the Turkish Straits Maritime Application and Research Center.

At ITU, discussions focused on student and faculty exchange programs, joint supervision at master’s and doctoral levels, collaborative research projects, digital transformation, and the adoption of modern teaching methodologies. ITU representatives presented the faculty’s international accreditations and high-ranking academic model, emphasizing a strong university–industry integration approach.

The ASMA delegation highlighted the academy’s academic programs, ongoing internationalization efforts, and plans to expand English-language instruction. The meeting also placed emphasis on cooperation in green energy, cybersecurity, alternative fuel technologies, and ship emission reduction strategies.

At the Turkish Straits Maritime Application and Research Center, the delegation was introduced to the institution’s work in navigational safety, vessel traffic services, and marine ecosystem protection. Both sides reached a preliminary understanding on joint scientific publications, seminars, online training programs, and the development of co-supervision mechanisms for academic research.

The visit concluded with the conclusion that expanding cooperation between ASMA and Türkiye leading maritime institutions will make a significant contribution to the advancement of maritime education and scientific research in the region.
