An increase in transit shipments along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route has been observed, with shorter delivery times and growing container volumes.

This was highlighted during a meeting in Astana between Deputy Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan Zhanibek Tayzhanov and Sergio Ollete Xosa, representative of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Partnerships.

The discussions focused on the development of port infrastructure in the Caspian region, including the reconstruction of berths at Aktau Port and the improvement of ferry services. It was noted that these projects are being implemented with financial support from the European Union and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The parties also addressed the digitalization of transport and logistics processes, the development of electronic document exchange systems, and the transition to electronic permit exchange in international road transport. The Kazakh side proposed that EU member states also join this initiative.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides emphasized continued cooperation aimed at strengthening the Trans-Caspian corridor as a reliable and competitive route between Asia and Europe.
