On May 22, an international event titled “SPLASH for Swimmable Cities” was held in Baku as part of World Biodiversity Day, “Baku – World Sports Capital 2026,” and Baku Urban Week.
The event took place at the Sea Breeze Resort and was jointly organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan Swimming Federation, the Swimmable Cities Alliance, and UN-Habitat.
The gathering brought together members of the diplomatic corps, guests of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), athletes, and swimming enthusiasts.
Speakers included Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, UN-Habitat Executive Director Anacláudia Rossbach, and advisor to the Azerbaijan Swimming Federation Rashad Abdurahmanov. They highlighted the role of swimming in promoting healthy lifestyles and contributing to urban development.
As part of the event, around 100 participants entered the sea simultaneously, joining a symbolic open-water swimming action and awareness campaign.
