Japanese swimmer Shin Ohashi broke the world record in the men’s 200-meter breaststroke at the Asian Games.
Sea-news.az reports that the 17-year-old athlete covered the distance in 2 minutes 4.83 seconds. In doing so, he improved the world record of 2 minutes 5.48 seconds, held by China’s Qin Haiyang since July 2023, by 0.65 seconds.
Shin Ohashi also won a gold medal in the 100-meter breaststroke event this week. In the final, he finished first after matching the time of China’s Dong Zhihao.
It should be noted that the previous world record holder, Qin Haiyang, did not participate in the 200-meter breaststroke event at the Asian Games.
