By the end of this year, the volume of containers handled at the Baku International Sea Trade Port is expected to increase significantly compared to last year.

This was stated by Eldar Salahov, Director General of Baku International Sea Trade Port LLC, a subsidiary of Azerbaijan Railways (ADY), during the welcoming ceremony for the “Gadamly” dry cargo vessel built in Turkmenistan.

According to him, the port plans to increase container turnover from 13,000 TEU to 120,000 TEU, and the measures currently being implemented are expected to help achieve this target.

Eldar Salahov also noted that the 7th berth at Baku Port has already been commissioned. The new berth is primarily intended for container operations.

“Alongside the commissioning of the Turkmen vessel, the launch of the 7th berth will contribute to faster and more flexible management of container operations,” he emphasized.

The Director General added that the introduction of an Italian-made mobile port crane with a lifting capacity of 125 tonnes is also enhancing the port’s cargo-handling capabilities.

According to him, the new crane allows containers to be unloaded from vessels more efficiently and helps reduce waiting times.
