The “Gadamly” cargo vessel is regarded as the first ship built in Turkmenistan to enter the Baku International Sea Trade Port.

This was stated by international transport expert Rauf Agamirzayev.

According to the expert, although cargo transportation between the ports of Turkmenbashi and Baku had already been carried out previously, the arrival of the “Gadamly” at Baku Port is of major importance for fostering healthy competition in the Caspian Sea.

Rauf Agamirzayev noted that the more developed the shipping industries of the Caspian littoral states become, the stronger the competitiveness and attractiveness of the Middle Corridor in international freight transportation will be.

He emphasized that the shortest route across the Caspian Sea lies between the ports of Baku and Turkmenbashi:

“This is a distance of approximately 300 kilometers, and ships cover the route in an average of 12 hours. The growth of cargo transportation between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan is one of the key factors increasing the overall attractiveness of the Middle Corridor.”

The expert also added that the Port of Turkmenbashi is among the largest cargo-handling ports in the Caspian basin.

“The port has the capacity to handle 17 million tonnes of cargo and 400,000 containers annually. At present, dredging operations are being carried out at Turkmenbashi Port alongside other regional ports, and part of the work has already been completed,” he said.
