Baku Shipyard LLC, part of AZCON Holding, has achieved significant results in the shipbuilding industry since the start of its operations.
Chairman of the Board Ruslan Talibov stated that a total of 14 shipbuilding projects have been completed at the facility to date. These include the “Khankendi” subsea construction vessel, dredgers, various types of tugboats, pontoons and topsides for semi-submersible drilling rigs, passenger and ferry vessels, as well as oil and chemical tankers. In addition, more than 170 vessels have undergone successful repairs at the shipyard.
Talibov noted that the shipyard’s annual production capacity allows for the fabrication of up to 25,000 tons of steel structures. This enables the construction of up to four 15,000-ton tankers per year or, alternatively, two “Caspian Max” type tankers with a deadweight of 60,000–70,000 tons. At the same time, the yard is capable of building four tug-supply and other types of vessels in parallel.
He emphasized that the shipyard’s order portfolio has expanded significantly. Under existing contracts, a total of 17 vessels are planned for construction. Of these, 11 are currently under construction, while six are at the design stage. Notably, four dry cargo container vessels are being built under international orders.
According to Talibov, the shipyard’s portfolio also includes Ro-Pax ferries, passenger vessels, firefighting and diving support vessels, as well as container ships.
He described the agreement with “KTZ Express Shipping” as a key milestone in the yard’s international operations, noting that it represents the second international order and further strengthens the shipyard’s reputation as a reliable global partner.
Under the contract, each of the two dry cargo container vessels will have a length of 140.97 meters, a width of 16.90 meters, and a hull height of 6.80 meters. Their draft will be 5.56 meters at sea and 3.60 meters in river conditions. The vessels will have a deadweight of approximately 9,900 tons at sea and 5,057 tons in river mode, with a container capacity of 537 TEU and 433 TEU, respectively. Each ship will be equipped with two main engines of 1,600 kW each and will operate at a speed of 11 knots.
Talibov underlined that these projects demonstrate the shipyard’s advanced technological capabilities and international competitiveness. The goal is to further strengthen its position in both domestic and global markets and to establish Azerbaijan as a leading shipbuilding hub in the region.
