Today marks six years since the liberation of the city of Zangilan from occupation.
Sea-news.az recalls that on October 20, 2020, the Azerbaijani Army wrote a new chapter in history in the fight for the liberation of our lands as several territories were freed from occupation.
President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev shared the news on his X page, replacing the grief of loss with the joy of liberation. The head of state made consecutive posts, sharing the glad tidings of the liberation of villages across four districts, as well as the city of Zangilan:
“The valiant Azerbaijani Army has liberated Dordchinar, Kurdlar, Yukhari Abdurrahmanli, Gargabazar, Ashagi Veysalli, and Yukhari Aybasanli villages of Fuzuli district; Safarsha, Hasangaydi, Fuganli, Imambagi, Dash Veysalli, Agtape, and Yarahmadli villages of Jabrayil district; Agjakand, Mulkudara, Dashbashi, Gunashli, and Chinarli villages of Khojavand district; Havali, Zarnali, Mammadbayli, Hakari, Sharifan, and Muganli villages of Zangilan district, as well as the city of Zangilan. Long live the Azerbaijani people! Karabakh is Azerbaijan!”
Naturally, the liberation of Zangilan stands as an indelible chapter in our glorious victory chronicle. The liberation of the district holds significant historical, political, and economic importance.
It should be noted that on July 31, 2023, President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree establishing city days for the liberated territories. Under the decree, October 20 is celebrated as Zangilan City Day.
