Fatalities have been reported after an oil tanker hit a naval mine in the Strait of Hormuz. Following the incident, a fire broke out on board the vessel.

Sea-news.az reports this was published by the Fars news agency, citing a statement by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

According to reports, the tanker turned off its Automatic Identification System (AIS) while passing through the Strait of Hormuz, thereby violating Iran’s transit regulations.

Iranian media had previously reported an incident involving a tanker hitting a mine in the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz.

The IRGC stated that stern measures could be taken against vessels that switch off their navigation and identification systems.
