It has been alleged that illegal fishing is being carried out using electric current in the sections of the Karabakh Canal passing through the Yevlakh and Barda districts, particularly in areas passing through the Aran settlement and surrounding villages.

Sea-news.az reports that footage regarding this matter was received by Oxu.Az’s hotline.

The footage captures dead fish surfacing on the water, with a citizen claiming that electric current is being illegally supplied to the water, destroying aquaculture.

In response to the inquiry regarding the issue, the Fisheries and Aquaculture Center stated that immediate control and inspection measures were carried out in the area concerning the allegations:

“Following the claims regarding illegal fishing using electric current in the sections of the Karabakh Canal passing through the Yevlakh and Barda districts, including the areas passing through the Aran settlement of Yevlakh district and surrounding villages, as well as the area known as the ‘Minstroy’ building, relevant control and inspection measures were carried out by the employees of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Center.

During the inspection, no instances of fishing using electric current booster (shock) equipment or other illegal methods were detected.

At the same time, the mentioned area has been taken under control by the Fisheries and Aquaculture Center, and control and inspection measures are continuously pursued to prevent illegal fishing in the area.”
