Law enforcement officers from the Main Police Department on Water Transport under the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) are continuing targeted operations to combat poaching across the Caspian Sea, as well as within protected reserves, national parks, and designated water basins within their service territory.

Sea-news.az reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, that during operations conducted by the Lankaran Line Police Department, an individual identified as I. Ahmadov was apprehended within the water basin of the Gizilagaj National Park for engaging in illegal fishing.

An inspection of the suspect revealed various species of fish and prohibited fishing implements. In a separate counter-poaching operation within the same national park reserve, four additional individuals—E. Eynalov, R. Eynalov, E. Azizov, and I. Eynalov—were detained for illegal hunting. Authorities confiscated four unauthorized hunting firearms from the group, alongside 72 illegally hunted wild birds belonging to species listed in Azerbaijan’s “Red Book” of endangered wildlife.

An investigation into both incidents is currently underway.

“To safeguard aquatic bioresources and preserve ecological balance, police personnel, in close coordination with relevant state agencies, are continuing intensive control and preventative operations,” the official statement emphasizes.
