US forces attacked two Iranian tankers on Tuesday while launching precision strikes against more than 100 facilities belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the elite branch of Iran’s armed forces.
Sea-news.az reports citing Axios, that White House sources confirmed the major military action.
According to officials, the operation marks the implementation of the U.S. administration’s new “tanker-for-tanker” strategy, through which Washington aims to compel a reduction in Iranian interference and hostile actions against commercial shipping in the critical Strait of Hormuz.
Axios notes that, according to initial assessments from U.S. sources, the latest strikes have successfully mitigated immediate threats to merchant vessels transiting the strait for at least the next month.
