Azerbaijan now fully satisfies its domestic demand for sturgeon, salmon, and carp species, with surplus production being successfully exported to foreign markets.
Sea-news.az reports that Ceyhun Aliyev, Director of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Center under the Ministry of Agriculture, made these statements during a press conference dedicated to the recently enacted laws “On Seed Production” and “On Fisheries.”
According to Aliyev, having achieved full self-sufficiency through the natural cultivation of species suited to local environments, a primary future target is expanding the export potential of sturgeon and sturgeon-based products.
The development of this sector has been strongly emphasized in both the state program adopted in May and the new “On Fisheries” law. The updated legislation provides for:
Simplifying licensing procedures within the fishing and aquaculture sector. Establishing comprehensive state support frameworks. Introducing product subsidies for fish cultivated through aquaculture. Streamlining and digitizing the preparation of biological and technical justifications to facilitate subsidy distribution and overall industry growth.
