Efforts are underway to extend comprehensive state support to the fisheries sector, mirroring other branches of agriculture to drive modernization and increase production quality and volume.

Sea-news.az reports that Deputy Minister of Agriculture Ilhama Gadimova made these remarks during a press conference dedicated to the newly adopted laws of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Seed Production and Fisheries.

“This demonstrates the major role of state support in further developing the fisheries sector, enhancing quality and output, modernizing enterprises, and boosting fish production. There are major targets regarding agricultural development in our country. There is a need to both develop fisheries and expand the relevant infrastructure. Therefore, the regulatory legal acts applied in the fisheries sector include regulations aligned with our goals,” the deputy minister noted.

To recap, President Ilham Aliyev signed the new law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On Fisheries” on August 27, 2026. The adoption of this new legislation establishes a unified legal framework for state control, the protection of fish and other aquatic bioresources, aquaculture, fish breeding, and the economic regulation of the sector, while also laying new legal foundations for digitalization, strengthened scientific support, and sustainable development within the industry.
