On September 23, the next meeting of the participating states of the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea will be held in Tehran. High-ranking officials from the five Caspian littoral states will participate in the meeting.

Sea-news.az reports that Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi provided information regarding this.

Kazem Gharibabadi stated that Iran and other Caspian littoral states are firmly opposed to the entry of military forces of non-littoral third countries into the Caspian Sea. Security in the region must be ensured exclusively by the five littoral states.

The MFA official drew attention to the fact that the drop in the water level of the Caspian Sea, ecological pollution, and the weakening of the ecosystem pose serious threats to shipping, fishing, port infrastructure, and maritime transport.

Gharibabadi emphasized that the ratification and entry into force of the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea will not negatively affect the process of delimitation of the seabed and underground resources.
