A tragic accident occurred off the coast of Liberty Island, home to the Statue of Liberty in New York City, USA, as a marine vessel capsized. Two people lost their lives, and 12 others sustained injuries of varying degrees.

Sea-news.az reports that the maritime accident was observed during nighttime hours.

According to the New York Coast Guard and rescue services, those who died in the tragic maritime accident are a 27-year-old woman and a 5-month-old baby girl.

The condition of the 12 people evacuated from the vessel as a result of the incident is assessed as mild. They were taken to nearby hospitals after receiving first aid.

It has not yet been clarified whether weather conditions, a maneuvering error, or a technical malfunction caused the vessel to capsize. Investigations into the maritime incident have been launched by the New York Coast Guard.
