August 8 is the birthday of Hokuma Aliyeva, National Hero of Azerbaijan and flight attendant.
Sea-news.az reports that Hokuma Jalil gizi Aliyeva was born in 1991 in the village of Susuzlug, Kalbajar District.
In 1993, due to the occupation of their village by Armenians, she temporarily settled in the village of Garadamirchi, Barda District.
In 1996, she moved to Russia and lived in the Volgograd region for a period. Here, Hokuma studied from 1st to 6th grade at School No. 78 in the city. Later, her family moved to Ganja, where Hokuma continued her education. After graduating from Full Secondary School No. 30 named after V. Veyselov in Ganja, she scored 612 points and was admitted to the Faculty of Law at Baku State University.
Hokuma Aliyeva continued her education at the master’s and doctoral levels.
Starting in 2016, she began working at Azerbaijan Airlines, first as a translator and later as a flight attendant.
Hokuma Aliyeva died in the line of duty in December 2024 when an AZAL “Embraer 190” aircraft operating flight J2-8243 on the Baku-Grozny route crashed nearly 3 km from the city of Aktau.
She left an indelible mark on memories with her words, “Everything will be alright,” spoken in her final minutes to calm the passengers.
Hokuma Aliyeva was buried on December 29, 2024, at the II Alley of Honor.
By Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev dated December 29, 2024, Hokuma Jalil gizi Aliyeva was posthumously awarded the title of “National Hero of Azerbaijan” for showing high professionalism, bravery, and selflessness in fulfilling her official duties and saving passengers’ lives during the crash of the passenger aircraft of “Embraer 190” type belonging to “Azerbaijan Airlines” Closed Joint-Stock Company while operating the Baku-Grozny (Russian Federation) flight.
In 2025, director and screenwriter Ziya Shikhlinski made a short documentary film about Hokuma Aliyeva’s life entitled “Hokuma – My Sorrow”. Personal items related to H. Aliyeva’s work activity were donated to the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan. A scholarship program was established in her name in Poland. An armored military ambulance produced in Kazakhstan was named after her.
