This country has taken an unusual step by dumping a hundred battle tanks into the sea.
Sea-news.az reports that in the early 1990s, with the introduction of the more modern M1 Abrams tanks, the US military decommissioned thousands of M60 tanks. It cleaned 100 of the decommissioned tanks from hazardous materials and sank them into the sea in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Alabama.
As a result, instead of becoming waste, those tanks were reintegrated into the marine ecosystem through a project implemented in Alabama. Experts state that the biodiversity developing over the years shows that such artificial reef projects make significant contributions to marine life.
Over the years, these combat vehicles have turned into giant artificial reefs for marine life, becoming a natural habitat for red snapper, groupers, and many other marine creatures. The area is also a popular destination for diving enthusiasts.
