In the name of peace and healing

Every year on August 6, the International “Doctors of the World for the Prevention of Nuclear War” Day is celebrated solemnly.

Sea-news.az reports that the proposal to establish this notable day was put forward by the international organization “International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War.” The date was not chosen randomly — it is the anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Japan, on August 6, 1945, and serves to draw attention to the horrific threats that nuclear weapons pose to humanity.

Uniting medical professionals from various countries, the organization consistently operates towards preventing the medical and catastrophic consequences of a nuclear war and the complete abolition of nuclear arsenals. The institution’s long-term humanitarian efforts in this field were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1985.

Health experts scientifically prove that there can be no winning side in a nuclear war, and such a conflict would completely paralyze global healthcare systems, creating an irreversible humanitarian disaster.

  • The impossibility of eliminating medical consequences: Doctors emphasize that no country’s healthcare and maritime rescue infrastructure in the world is capable of overcoming the consequences of large-scale nuclear strikes.
  • The only way out: The only effective way to prevent the nuclear threat is the mass prohibition of the proliferation and use of these weapons.
  • Awareness-raising events: Within the framework of the notable day, scientific conferences, public campaigns, and educational exhibitions are held in various countries.

The International “Doctors of the World for Peace” Day once again reminds the global community that the protection of human life and health depends directly not only on the development of medical science, but also on ensuring sustainable global peace and international maritime and land security.
