August 4 is the birthday of Ramiz Melik, an outstanding representative of Azerbaijani theater and cinema, and an unforgettable People’s Artist.
Sea-news.az reports that Ramiz Melik was born in Baku in 1943. Entering the drama and cinema acting faculty of the Azerbaijan State Theater Institute named after Mirzaagha Aliyev in 1963, he studied under such giant artists as Rza Tahmasib, Tofiq Kazimov, and Malik Dadashov, graduating in 1967.
Accepted into the troupe of the Academic National Drama Theater in the very same year, the actor served this spiritual temple until the end of his life. Alongside the colorful characters he created on stage, he also engaged in fruitful activities as a director in staging famous plays such as “Flat Hill,” “Stranger,” and “Khurshidbanu Natavan.”
Ramiz Melik created a series of memorable roles in nearly 60 films, including “Birthday,” “The Last Pass,” “Battle in the Mountains,” “Find That Girl,” “Seven Sons I Want…”, “Window of Sorrow,” and “Ghazalkhan,” which are considered gems of our national cinema.
The master artist’s services have always been highly appreciated by our state. He was awarded the honorary titles of Honored Artist in 1982 and People’s Artist in 1998, and became a State Prize laureate in 1984. For his exceptional services to the development of theater art, he was decorated with the “Shohrat” Order, the Jafar Jabbarli Award, the “Artist” Medal, and the Honorary Diploma of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
People’s Artist Ramiz Melik passed away on December 14, 2023, at the age of 80, and was buried in the Second Alley of Honor.
