The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran has announced that it intercepted two oil tankers attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without permission.
According to sea-news.az that according to a statement released by the IRGC today, the vessels attempted to navigate through the hazardous southern part of the strait, ignoring warnings. According to the statement, an explosion on board the vessels caused a major fire.
The IRGC added that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed as long as the US continues its operations in the region.
At the same time, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) stated that an oil tanker was targeted by an unknown object in the Strait of Hormuz today. As a result, the crew abandoned the ship and evacuated using a backup life raft.
The UK agency’s statement also noted that during the day, they received reports of another vessel being targeted by an unknown projectile. The incident occurred 8 nautical miles east of Lima, Oman. It is reported that the ship’s crew has been evacuated. No information has been provided regarding whether the incident has had any environmental impacts.
