The MV BARIMA passenger ferry, carrying approximately 116 people, has been involved in an accident off the coast of Guyana in northern South America.
According to sea-news.az that this was announced by Guyana’s Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill.
“Active search and rescue operations are currently underway, and we are praying for their safety,” the minister stated. He noted that 53 people have been rescued from the vessel so far.
According to preliminary information, the vessel was traveling from the country’s capital, Georgetown, to Port Kaituma, and a distress call regarding an incident on board was received shortly after departure.
The search and rescue team was able to locate the MV BARIMA ferry after those on board fired signal flares.
