Chinas first hydrogen-powered ship with a capacity of 2,000 metric tons was launched on Thursday in Zhaoqing, Guangdong Province. This marks a breakthrough in the countrys independent development of large hydrogen-powered river vessels.
According to sea-news.az that the “Yun Tao No. 1,” developed and built by Guangdong Yuntao Hydrogen Energy Technology in cooperation with the China State Shipbuilding Corporation, is 70 meters long and 14 meters wide, with a cruising range of 760 kilometers. According to China Daily, the vessel can carry approximately 140 containers or an equivalent bulk cargo, including ore, coal, and grain, in a single voyage.
According to Cui Caiyun, Vice President and Head of the Shipping Department at “YunTao Hydrogen Tech,” the ship is powered by a completely domestically developed marine fuel cell system consisting of three 260-kilowatt hydrogen fuel cell generator sets combined with lithium-ion batteries for extended range. An intelligent energy management mechanism and multi-layered hydrogen leakage protection systems ensure zero-carbon levels and minimal noise and pollutant emissions during full operation.
