A Togo-flagged cargo ship unloading mineral fertilizers at a port in Ukraines Odesa region was struck by a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The attack caused a fire in the ships superstructure.
According to sea-news.az that, according to Ukrainian officials, 5 crew members were killed in the incident, and 12 people were injured. Seven of the injured are currently receiving medical treatment in the hospital.
The attack also caused damage to port infrastructure and other civilian facilities. Overall, it is reported that drone attacks on maritime ports in the Odesa region have intensified in recent days.
Meanwhile, Ukraine has also launched long-range drone strikes on Russia’s energy infrastructure. The attacks resulted in fires at oil refining facilities in the Krasnodar Krai and Bashkortostan.
International Maritime Organization (IMO) Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez condemned the attacks on civilian merchant vessels, stating that it is unacceptable for seafarers to become victims of conflicts.
Following official confirmation, it has been reported that the death toll from the attack, which occurred on July 13, reached 5 after the discovery of two additional bodies during fire-extinguishing efforts.
