German test for young swimmers

The European Championship for swimmers under 18 has concluded in Munich, Germany. Our national team of Azerbaijan demonstrated high results during the competition held from July 7 to 12.

According to sea-news.az that our 7 athletes, participating in the tournament under the leadership of head coach Luka Gabrilo and coaches Rashad Aliyev and Ruslan Hatamkhanov, significantly improved their personal performances. While our swimmers broke 5 personal records at the continental championship held in Slovakia last year, this figure reached 11 in Munich this year.

In the competition, 17-year-old Suleyman Ismayilzada reached the final in the 1500-meter freestyle with a time of 15:37.48, finishing the championship in 6th place. The young athlete had finished 7th in the final of last year’s European Championship.

The results of our other swimmers who broke their personal records in the championship are as follows:

  • Yegor Maynitski (16): 50m breaststroke (30.37 / previous: 30.82), 200m individual medley (2:07.55 / previous: 2:08.66), 400m individual medley (4:34.48 / previous: 4:43.61)
  • Maryam Javadova (14): 50m freestyle (27.66 / previous: 28.75), 100m freestyle (59.18 / previous: 1:00.31)
  • Oqtay Huseynov (16): 200m individual medley (2:09.41 / previous: 2:10.98)
  • Anastasiya Gnusina (14): 400m freestyle (4:33.74 / previous: 4:38.54), 800m freestyle (9:27.88 / previous: 9:31.88)
  • Farhad Shirmammadli (15): 400m freestyle (4:09.96 / previous: 4:13.13), 800m freestyle (8:30.21 / previous: 8:36.04), 1500m freestyle (16:12.25 / previous: 16:34.53)

It should be noted that 15-year-old Mehri Abdurahmanli, who participated in the tournament as part of the team, also represented our country worthily in the competition.
