Mukhtar Akhundov, a veteran employee of the “Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping” CJSC (ASCO) and a long-voyage captain, is celebrating his 80th birthday.
According to sea-news.az citing seanews.az, representatives from ASCO Social Development and Transport Department and the Republican Committee of the Marine Transport Trade Union visited the retired seaman at his home to mark the occasion.
During the meeting, Mukhtar Akhundovs contributions to the maritime sector were commemorated, and well wishes were conveyed to him. The jubilarian expressed his gratitude to the ASCO team for their attention and care.
After graduating from secondary school in 1962, Mukhtar Akhundov entered the Ship Navigation faculty of the Baku Marine College named after Gafur Mammadov. He began his career as an assistant captain on a 12,000-ton ship belonging to the Caspian Sea Shipping Company.
Rising through the ranks from third mate to ship captain and eventually long-voyage captain, Mukhtar Akhundov later served as the head of the Azerbaijan State Caspian Shipping Company’s representative office in Turkey. Between 2003 and 2012, he served as the Deputy Chairman for International Relations at the Shipping Company, and in 2012, he was appointed as the First Deputy Chairman.
For his meritorious service in the maritime field, Mukhtar Akhundov has been honored with dozens of awards, including the “Taraggi” (Progress) medal and a personal pension granted by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
