Despite the ceasefire in effect in the Strait of Hormuz, the return of maritime transport to pre-war levels could take several months due to the necessity of clearing mines.
According to sea-news.az this was reported by the Financial Times (FT).
Takaya Soga, head of the Japanese shipping company “NYK Line,” told the publication that a long period will be required for the full restoration of maritime shipping in the region. According to him, shipping routes are currently severely restricted, and vessels are only able to travel near Iran’s Larak Island and along the coast of Oman. It is estimated that approximately 80 mines remain in the area, endangering maritime traffic.
The company executive added that even if vessels can freely enter and exit the strait, shipping volumes will remain below half of normal levels for some time.
