According to the annual report of the International Group of Liquefied Natural Gas Importers (GIIGNL), global trade in liquefied natural gas (LNG) reached 428 million tonnes in 2025, representing a 5% increase compared with the previous year.
According to sea-news.az that the growth was driven primarily by a strong recovery in LNG demand in Europe and the arrival of new supplies from the Atlantic Basin.
According to the report:
- Europe imported 126 million tonnes of LNG, an increase of 29% year-on-year.
- LNG imports by the Middle East and Africa rose by 69% to 18.2 million tonnes.
- Asia’s LNG imports declined by 4% to 271 million tonnes.
- Imports in North and South America fell by 17% to 12.3 million tonnes.
The regional shares of global LNG imports were as follows:
- Asia — 63%
- Europe — 30%
- Middle East and Africa — 4%
- North and South America — 3%
GIIGNL noted that 2025 was a year marked by both growing LNG trade volumes and rapidly evolving infrastructure investments and supply strategies, reflecting ongoing changes in global energy markets.
