A meeting held at the Baku Sea Port focused on improving operational efficiency in response to growing cargo flows and strengthening inter-agency coordination. Representatives of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, the State Customs Committee, the State Border Service, and Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) participated in the discussions, reviewing both current results and future development priorities.
According to sea-news.az citing Azerbaijan Railways, data presented at the meeting showed that 3.237 million tons of cargo were handled through Baku Port in January–May 2026. In May alone, cargo turnover increased by 10.6% compared to the same period last year, reaching 812,000 tons. Container traffic also demonstrated positive growth, with 50,050 TEU containers handled in the first five months of the year—an 8.4% increase year-on-year.
During the meeting, ongoing modernization projects at the port were highlighted, including the commissioning of Berth No. 7 for the first time and the launch of a new-generation crane with a 125-ton lifting capacity, significantly expanding the port’s technical capabilities.
Participants also discussed measures to accelerate cargo and vehicle clearance procedures, reduce service times, and optimize logistics operations. The application of digital solutions and AI-based management tools was emphasized as a key factor in automating cargo handling processes and improving overall efficiency.
As part of the visit, representatives inspected the port infrastructure and the Unified Access Center, which operates with the participation of the State Border Service, State Customs Committee, and State Migration Service. Additional instructions were given to further streamline documentation and border-crossing procedures.
Overall, the growth in cargo turnover, expansion of infrastructure, and ongoing digitalization efforts underline Azerbaijan’s strengthening position as a key logistics and transit hub in the Caspian region.
