The modernization and recommissioning of the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars (BTK) railway line has further strengthened the strategic importance of the Middle Corridor, contributing significantly to the economic development of the participating countries.
According to sea-news.az this project—implemented through the joint efforts of Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Georgia—has continued to expand through sustained investments since its official inauguration in 2017. Azerbaijan, in particular, invested in the renovation of a 184-kilometer section in Georgia, ensuring the modernization of 13 stations, 55 bridges, 8 traction substations, and hundreds of engineering structures.
As a result of these works, the BTK railway’s capacity has been increased to 5 million tons per year, turning the line into one of the most competitive transit routes between the Caspian and Black Sea regions.
Officials emphasize that the success of such large-scale infrastructure projects depends on long-term political commitment and regional cooperation, with BTK serving as one of the clearest examples of this partnership in practice.
