May 28 holds a special place in the glorious history of the Azerbaijani people. With the proclamation of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in 1918, our nation established its independent statehood and laid the foundation for the first parliamentary democratic republic in the East.
Although the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic existed for only 23 months, it played a significant role in shaping national statehood traditions, establishing democratic values, and strengthening national identity.
Today, as the successor to that historic legacy, the independent Republic of Azerbaijan has become one of the leading countries in the region with its strong political, economic, and military potential. The statehood strategy defined by National Leader Heydar Aliyev is being successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev, while Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and national interests are firmly protected.
May 28 – Independence Day is a remarkable date reflecting our nation’s spirit of freedom, determination for statehood, and national pride.
