The United States Armed Forces have stated that they carried out an operation against the Iranian-flagged tanker Hasna in the Gulf of Oman.
According to a statement released by the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), the tanker was heading toward an Iranian port on May 6 and failed to change course despite multiple warnings.
CENTCOM reports that forces launched a strike from an F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter-bomber deployed from the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, targeting the vessel’s steering control system.
The statement claims that as a result of the operation, the Hasna tanker was no longer able to continue its voyage toward Iran.
Iran has not yet issued an official response regarding the incident.
