Hormuz crisis: ship tracking service made free

Japan’s “Weathernews” company has temporarily made ship tracking and weather forecast data for Middle Eastern waters available free of charge on its “SeaNavigator” platform amid rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.

The move is intended to help shipowners and operators manage navigational risks more effectively against the backdrop of geopolitical instability in the region, as well as strong seasonal winds known locally as the “Shamal.”

As part of the service, users are provided with live vessel positions, wave forecasts, and local weather information covering nearly 140 ports across the Persian Gulf, the Red Sea, and Western India.

The platform, which combines “MarineTraffic” data with Weathernews’ proprietary forecasting systems, offers seven-day advance information to help vessels avoid accidents such as collisions and groundings. The company stated that through this initiative it remains committed to saving seafarers’ lives and ensuring the continuity of international logistics.
